About this converter
Why iPhone photos will not open
Since iOS 11 the camera saves in HEIC, a format that stores the same picture in about half the space of JPG. The catch is support: plenty of Windows applications, older photo editors and web upload forms simply refuse the file. Converting to JPG makes the photo universally readable.
What is kept
Full resolution and orientation are preserved, so a 12 megapixel photo stays 12 megapixels and is not rotated on its side. Expect the JPG to be larger than the HEIC, since JPG is the less efficient format. Live Photo motion and depth data are camera extras that JPG has nowhere to store, so a still image is what you get.
HEIC to JPG: common questions
Why does my browser say it cannot read HEIC?
This tool uses your browser’s image decoder. HEIC support depends on your browser, operating system and file. If your browser cannot decode it, the tool shows an error and uploads nothing. Try a browser or image editor with HEIC support.
Can I convert a whole camera roll?
Yes. Select up to 20 photos per batch and they are converted one after another, with a progress bar for the batch and a single ZIP download at the end.
Will the photos lose quality?
The conversion writes JPG at 92 percent quality, which is visually indistinguishable from the original at normal viewing sizes and leaves room for later editing.
What about HEIF files?
HEIF and HEIC are the same underlying format with different extensions, and both are accepted here.
